WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture works through stimulating acupoints that lie on lines or channels in the body and are stimulated by the insertion of fine needles at various locations.
The action of each point and combinations of points, and their effectiveness in treating different diseases, have been learnt through clinical practice for many centuries.
In recent years many of these actions have been scientifically refined and verified by modern research methods.
We understand that not everyone will have any experience in alternative treatments and many are sceptical of their effectiveness however we passionately believe in acupuncture as a highly effective treatment for many physical and mental ailments.
We are sensitive to any apprehensions you might have and will only advise on a course of treatment that we believe will be beneficial to you.
What should I expect during a session?
Osteopaths are required to obtain relevant medical information in order to help achieve an accurate diagnosis and provide a suitable treatment plan. As a primary healthcare profession we are also trained to identify medical conditions we cannot treat. In these circumstances we will refer you to your G.P for further investigations.
The first session includes a consultation as well as a treatment.
The consultation is a discussion between the practitioner and patient to establish the nature of the problem as well covering relevant medical and family history. All information is confidential.
The treatment requires the patient to dress down to their underwear (shorts can be worn) in order for the practitioner to assess the patient’s posture and function. Towels are used to cover the patient during treatment. The practitioner will always inform the patient of what is about to happen before performing any assessment or treatment. The patient has the right to consent to, or decline treatment at any time. Chaperones can be used if preferred.
What does it cost?
£40 initial consultation and £35 follow up treatments.
